This Drives Me Batshit Crazy

What the fuck is wrong with these people?  Oh, and what’s a toddler doing in Las Vegas, anyway?

Here’s one things that drives me crazy about the Las Vegas casino scene.

It’s seeing small children and toddlers being dragged around casinos like worn out suitcases late at night by their idiotic parents.  I swear, I just want to take a hammer and turn totally loose on these numb skulls.

What the fuck is wrong with these people?  Oh, and what’s a toddler doing in Las Vegas, anyway?

Know the scene I’m talking about here?

I’ve seen this sad site way too many times to count.  Young children scurrying in hallways, bored to tears.  Zonked out babies in strollers at 2 am.  Youngsters desperately trying to sleep in shopping areas while mommy and daddy are acting like clueless buffoons.  Casinos might be acceptable hangouts for children at times — but not late at night when responsible adults should have their children tucked in bed.

If it’s past midnight, and I see a minor who’s walking down The Strip….or camped out somewhere inside a casino (in common areas — since they aren’t permitted on the gambling floor)….I believe that child protective services should be summoned immediately.  If parents are with the children and have an alcoholic drink in hand, then they should be arrested and lose custody.  Sew up those mothers and castrate the fathers.  End of any future problems.  We don’t need anymore irresponsible parents like that popping out kids like stray dogs in heat.  Most of these jokers should probably never should have had kids in the first place.

Why am I so pissed ?

Here’s the horrific scene that took place last night (just a few hours ago).  Marieta and I were at the Bally’s main entrance waiting at valet parking following a show.  A young couple, presumed to be the parents of three small children, were drinking alcoholic beverages out of those long plastic tubes while sitting on a bench, probably waiting for their car to arrive.  Two of the children were running wildly out of control around the busy valet area, while the other poor innocent youngster was cradled in the seemingly disinterested mother’s arms, hopelessly trying to sleep amid the weekend chaos.

One of the children, a girl of perhaps five, wandered out around the corner where shuttle buses were zooming by and pulling into the public area.  Then, there was a loud screech.  One of the buses slammed on the brakes.  The little girl has wondered out in front of a moving bus.  It was 11:45 at night.  The parents yelled a few words at the child and then basically went back to sipping their cocktails.

Observers were horrified.  Several people around us let out loud gasps and then conversed loudly about what they had just witnessed.  I can’t even begin to express my level of disgust.  Fortunately, a hammer wasn’t handy.

Of course, what happened here is an extreme example of very bad parenting.  We see these kinds of acts all the time in other venues.  Public scenes with parents and children can sometimes be pretty horrifying to watch, and as much as I’m not a fan of children, I can also sympathize with those who try to raise their offspring in the proper way.  It can’t be easy being a parent nowadays.  Indeed, I’ve become entirely sympathetic to the pitfalls of being a good father or mother, largely through some of my own close friends and relatives who struggle to raise kids.

That said, children have no business whatsoever being awake anywhere near a casino past a reasonable hour.  End of discussion.  There is no debate.  If you disagree with me — you’re wrong.  I’m right.  Exceptions can be made for late night arrivals or checking into hotels past normal hours due to unforeseen circumstances.  But parents who do their partying with their kids in tow — well, they shouldn’t be parents.  It’s as simple as that.  [See Footnote Below]

Las Vegas can be a great place to live.  It can also be a fun place to party.  It can even be a wonderful place to bring kids.

But the late night casino scene is not the proper environment for small children.  Any parent who deliberately places their kids into this very unpredictable adult environment deserves the maximum degree of society’s disdain.

As for me — a hammer, a sewing kit, and castration would solve the problem.

These parents who drag their kids around casinos late at night should be charged with crimes, because that’s what they truly are — criminals.

  1. I couldnt agree more, I see this very same thing at the ohio and Indiana casinos.

  2. As a kid who grew up locked in the car with my brother outside a casino, bar, nightclub. I really can speak to this. We’re both reasonably succesfull adults with family’s of our own.
You are the same ‘Do-Nothing’ loud mouth we ran into growing up. I hope you feel better about your self. You blogged about it. A silly waste of time. Keep stepping around the carriages and over the homeless.

    • good one Nolan – now a reply to the one “grew up in cars “WTF? did you not see the video of parents assaulting do gooders who got car out of hot car? if you interfere when no law being broken you are the one go to jail! too bad your parents are as s wipes.

  3. I completely agree. I feel the casinos contribute. At the south point Thursday we were at the cashier and uncontrollable kids were running about while the mother was doing a transaction. I asked if they were allowed to be there and the response was “yes”. A disinterested security guard thought it was fine. What? Yesterday on Fremont I witnessed another parent drinking a giant around the neck drink while toting a child. It’s depressing. And as you say dangerous. At least no vehicles were present but it’s wrong.
