Odds on the November Nine (2014 World Series of Poker Final Table)
The following is provided for information and discussion purposes only. I don’t encourage or endorse any gambling site or wagering on the World Series of Poker final table, or any other poker event.
Bovada Sportsbook released odds on this year’s “November Nine.” These are the nine remaining players still in the hunt to become the 2014 world poker champion.
A few interesting things about these odds and my personal thoughts (not to be taken as the basis for any wager):
— Jorryt van Hoof, the chip leader is slightly less than 3 to 1 to win the championship. With all due respect, he’s probably slightly longer odds than that (probably 4 to 1) given the flat chip distribution in the top five spots
— Mark Newhouse seems to be priced very favorably, given his chip status (ranked third) and previous experience in this role. Newhouse made last year’s “November Nine,” but was the first player to bust out.
— The four players ranked 6-9 are all relatively close in chips. Aside from how they’re perceived in talent, the best value of this bunch is clearly Bruno Politano, listed as a 16 to 1 shot. Since anything is possible (we’ve seen low chip stacks win before — including Joe Hachem in 2005 and Jerry Yang in 2007), he’s probably a decent value at this price if you want to back a longshot.
— Odds are 3 to 2 against an American player winning the Main Event Championship. Four of the nine players are Americans, but three of those four are ranked in the bottom half of the chip stacks. Odds are probably better than that we will see a non-American world champion.
